Founded in 2017 as part of the Africarriers Group, FNR Industries has grown into the country's largest manufacturer of smart energy meters and the sole domestic manufacturer of smart and analogue water meters.
In 2017, Tanzania's utility sector was importing virtually every meter and distribution component on its grid. Lead times stretched into months. Spare-parts logistics were brittle. And the hardware itself was rarely specified for the dust, heat, surge events and operational realities of African distribution networks.
FNR Industries was founded to change that. We built a vertically-integrated factory that could design, assemble and quality-test smart meters and accessories in-country — to TANESCO, IEC and STS specification — at scale.
Eight years on, more than 1.5 million FNR smart energy meters are in service across the national grid, our water meters supply DAWASA and the regional water authorities, and our 120+ distribution accessory SKUs are specified into projects from coastal Dar es Salaam to upcountry feeder networks.
